South Bend Community School Corporation
Kennedy Academy & LaSalle Academy
CHALLENGE
South Bend schools faced low test scores, high chronic absenteeism, and the effects of economic disadvantage. Kennedy Academy and LaSalle Academy needed focused academic support to improve student outcomes and build stronger schoolwide momentum.
OUTCOME
Both schools achieved meaningful breakthrough gains after implementing the North Star Metric framework. Kennedy Academy improved in ELA and math and moved up in statewide ranking, while LaSalle Academy rose to 21st out of 485 Indiana middle schools and earned a 5-star SchoolDigger rating.

Robinson Elementary School
CHALLENGE
Robinson Elementary had persistent academic underperformance, including an “Academically Unacceptable” rating, below-average test scores, and a major racial achievement gap in math.
OUTCOME
The school earned a “Met Standard” rating for the first time in over a decade and improved across subjects and grade levels, with math scores increasing by an average of 30 points and eliminating the gap with White students in the district.

Young Women's College Preparatory College
CHALLENGE
Only 21% of graduating seniors were being accepted to Tier I/Ivy League colleges and universities. The school needed a stronger college-readiness strategy to increase applications, guide students through the admissions process, and create more structured support for students pursuing highly selective college opportunities.
OUTCOME
The percentage of graduating seniors admitted to Tier I/Ivy League schools increased steadily over three years after focused implementation of the North Star Metric framework. Admissions rose from 21% to 41% in year one, then to 69% in year two, and ultimately reached 100% in year three, showing significant growth in college access, readiness, and student opportunity.

CHALLENGE
Low enrollment and poor school performance, with no waiting list, a failing school designation, and a weak statewide ranking.
OUTCOME
Enrollment grew from 265 to 830 students, the school earned an “A” rating with TEA distinctions, built a 500+ student waiting list, and rose to 14th out of 2,176 middle schools in Texas.
